What I Love...Day 31, 2011

(So this post is a little late...I was sick and busy watching Toddlers and Tiaras.)

 I love...

students that are excited to see me after I've been gone for a few days.  Makes me feel like I'm doing something good here...and it helps feed my narcissism.

It Came!

Nope...not snow or Santa or a truck full of happy attitudes for my 6th graders.

It came.

Oh, man!  I'm so excited to wear it.  It's so much cuter with the natural peacock feathers.

I'd post pictures but I want it to be a surprise when the wedding pictures come out...or when you come to my wedding.

Not to toot my own horn but I look freaking awesome.  I'm going to be a stunning bride...just saying.

And,

Have a very merry Christmas eve!

Verbal Blogging Vomit Stops Here

I haven't blogged in days.  My interest is waning again.  I'm sorry I'm not more interesting.

In earlier times on this blog, I got all invasive with myself...that sounded dirty.  That was not what I meant.  What I'm trying to say is that I spilled my guts to the faceless people who stumble across my blog.  It was like verbal vomit all over the internet.  I was okay with that.  I'm not one to really hide too much.  But now that my life involves a lot more people, I don't feel as comfortable spilling everything.

I guess I'm worried that these people will also stumble across my blog, get upset that I shared our lives with anonymous strangers, and never want to see me again.  I don't want that.  I like these people and want them in my life forever.

It's weird though because there is so much I want to say.  So much that would be so interesting to read (maybe.  Maybe that's just my narcissism talking).  So again, I'm sorry.  Keep checking back.  Maybe these friends will be okay with me spilling everything.  Maybe I'll ask them.  Have a great Tuesday!

Less of a Blubbering Idiot

It's the end of the year.  The 6th graders have gone crazy.  I get frustrated and annoyed and I just want them to listen to the 30 seconds of instruction I have.

But I just realized something today...I haven't cried because of my students in 5 months.

At the beginning of the year my students stole from me, hated each other, wrote inappropriate things about each other, injured each other physically, and never listened to a thing I said.

This is an amazing transformation and I think I'll take all the credit for it (because of my narcissistic  tendencies).  Go me.

And go my students for not being turds to me or each other. There is hope.

Being Stupid is Tough Work

I've been super dumb the last couple of days.

I already told you of the no sleeping thing.  This trend has continued and now I've gotten even stupider.

I'm blaming the lack of sleep for my horrible decision making.  I may be making it sound like I did something horrible.  I don't think I did.  But I do think it's just going to come back and bite me, and only me, in the bum.

Here's how it all went down:

During reading groups, my student L. (you know L. from proper English lady, "Girls just want to date me", "Valentine's Day is a day of love", "Hey laaaaaaady!", Jedi boots, and Tampico.) asks me why I'm not married (then he told me how pretty I am and that I should have a boyfriend...but that's beside the point).  Somehow, we got to talking about my boyfriends or lack thereof.  And somehow, I began talking about the boy that I like.  I told them almost everything.

My girls are even more obsessed now with finding me a husband than they were here.  We'll see how this all plays out.

Journal Gems

My students have been writing in journals since the first day of school. Sometimes I give them topics to write on, sometimes I let them write about anything they want.

On our last day of school, I gathered all the journals (yes, this is the first time, oops!) and have been reading through them. While most of the writing is mediocre at best, I have gotten some gems out of these journals. For example:

L. (the boy who gave us the gems of proper English Lady and "Hey laaaady!") said: "I can't help it if my face is so beautiful that girls just want to date me."

J. (I've never talked about her before because she is very quiet and doesn't give me gems like some of the other kids do.) said: "I love this class because my teacher, Miss J., is the best teacher ever...When I have to go to 7th grade, I'm going to cry and cry and cry and cry and cry and keep crying because I don't want to leave this classroom and Miss J. because she does not stop teaching until we all get it. That's why she's the best teacher even in the whole world." (I had to add this for my own narcissistic tendencies, not because it was funny or anything.)

She also said: "Miss J. is the best teacher in the whole world, I mean it, she is too good for all of the men out there. So watch out you women, Miss J. she is going to wop your butt so hide your men because she will take them from you because your men will look at her and leave you and go with her." Yep, what she said, you women. Oh, man. I almost peed when I read this one!

K. said: "Yesterday, Miss B.'s sub was so cute!!! L. and I went to mix-it-up and he was our teacher...well, we saw him and both said at the same time that he looked like EDWARD!!! Oh, and the sub was nice."

H. (who talks exactly like he writes) said: "I still don't get the whole point of this assignment because I think my palm will explode before I finish this page. No joke dude. I am not playing."

I haven't read all of the journals yet so I'm sure you'll hear a few more before I go back on track. This is why 6th grade is amazing.

Are You Stalking Me?

I just read this post about Obama's education speech. It's funny because it's true!

Onto better things...me and my narcissism. If you've taken a look at my entire blog, you've noticed the counter. I just like to watch it go up a few numbers after I post. It's fun for me and tells me that someone cares about what I say (or you like to laugh at the stupid things I do and say...either way, you're reading my blog). It usually goes up about 10 views after I post something. Cool, people read my blog.

Since my last post about Obama's speech the counter has gone up about 10,000 views. What the heck? I'm thinking the counter just doesn't understand place value and thinks that you can add numbers anywhere...ones place, thousands place...it's all the same.

Here is my conclusion to the counter mystery...Either my counter needs a good second grade teacher or I have many more blog stalkers than I originally thought.
