I Had Great Taste in Movies

As I was watching Willow (a movie I l-o-v-e-d as a child) I realized a few things about my favorite childhood movies.

Things that made a good movie for the child version of Ash H.:
  • Babies
  • Little people
  • People with red hair
  • People with curly hair
  • Singing
  • Accents/Funny voices
  • Scary animals
Now, let's look at the favorite movies of my childhood and see how they stack up against my list of good movie qualities:
  • Annie (red hair, curly hair, singing)
  • The Little Mermaid (red hair, singing)
  • The Wizard of Oz (singing, little people)
  • Willow (little people, baby, red hair, curly hair, accents, scary animals)
  • The Princess Bride (accents, scary animals)
  • The Chipmunk Adventure (funny voices, singing)
  • A Christmas Story (scary animals--those dogs that eat the turkey? Scary to 4-year-old me)
  • Curly Sue (curly hair)
If someone could make a movie with all of these elements they would make a bajillion dollars from the four-year-old that still lives inside me.

    Victoria, Jaynee and Burlington

I went to the mall with Jaynee to buy cheap bras at Victoria's Secret.

I've decided I don't much enjoy that store.  It reminds me of my junior high years when I felt a bit scandalous to be shopping in such a "naughty" store.

The scents of all the lotions brought me right back to the girls locker room after a gym class.  Why did we insist on smearing a years supply of Pear GlacĂ© lotion all over our bodies?  We must have smelled horrible.  I apologize junior high teachers.  Not only were we difficult to deal with but we smelled like those gym socks you haven't washed in a year and your grandma's stinky perfume had a baby.

The smell of that lotion literally makes me sick to my stomach.  It brings back so many not fun memories.  Ah, man.  Junior high sucked hard core.

After Victoria's, we went over to Burlington Coat Factory.  Who knew they had gobs of cheap lingerie?  I didn't.  I decided that looking at lingerie would be a very awkward time to run into a student.  Good thing it didn't happen.

    What I Love...Day 22

    I love...

...that my roommate's little brother found a ceramic piece I made during my senior year...and it's still in the library at the high school...and they gave me a plaque with my full name on it...and that he took a picture and sent it to my roommate who immediately sent it to me. Wow.

Here's the story of how my high school came to own a piece that I made:

I took AP Ceramics (really, it's a class. Really, it's hard just like any other AP class, promise. Don't judge, you would have been eaten alive by the difficulty of this class.) during my senior year. We made all kinds of crazy awesome things. One of the projects we made was an asymmetrical piece. I decided to make a bunch of ity-bity pots, cut them in half and attach them to a base. This is what I ended up with:

I was in loooove with it! I wanted to keep it forever and never let it go...then my teacher informed me that the principal wanted to buy it for $200. See ya later, asymmetrical pot! I was so excited. I even got a big purple ribbon to go along with my $200 check. It was a great day.

Then the principal put it in the library and had the lovely plaque made. And then my roommate's brother found it **cough**8yearslater**cough...cough**

    Woot happy day.

    Musical Spring Cleaning

I'm a musical pack rat. I have almost filled my iPod (about 7,000 songs, I know...ridiculous). I have recently noticed my computer really taking its sweet time to do things so I decided that today was the day that I would get rid of music I don't listen to any more. I have tried to do this often but I always have this paranoid thought of "What if I decide I want to listen to them again one day? Then what?" Today I pushed those paranoid thoughts out the window and started deleting. I'm down to about 4,500 songs now which is still insane but I can't bare to part with them.

Because of all this 'cleaning,' I have rediscovered some music that I at one time loved but due to the vast amount of music on my iPod, I haven't listened to in a long time.

    Forgotten Favorites

    • Daydreams -- Adele
    • All That Matters -- Addison Road
    • All I Want is You -- Barry Louis Polisar

    • Say Anything (Else) -- Cartel
    • Like You'll Never See Me Again -- Alicia Keys
    • Bang Bang -- K'naan
    • Styrofoam Plates -- Death Cab For Cutie

These songs bring back so many memories! I can still remember the first time I heard some of the songs or the exact things I was doing when listening to them. Screaming Infidelities reminds me of my senior year of high school, skipping class to drive around in a friend's new car and sing this song over and over again at the top of our lungs.

Styrofoam Plates reminds me of a college professor that was a bit wacky but taught me so much.

Here's to the Night and Sam's Song remind me of the year I lived in Sugar House and was so poor and trying to survive my first year at Westminster.

I love how music has such a prominent place in many people's lives. People are so connected through music.
