School's Out for Summer...Schools Out Forever 3 Weeks!

Today was our last day of school.

Let's wrap up the last week of school since the blogging has been hit and miss the past few days.

Monday: Let's be real...who remembers Mondays anyway?

Tuesday: Husband gets home from his business trip to D.C.  Things are back as they should be.

Wednesday: Honor Roll Assembly.  I received an amazing compliment from one of my parents.  It went something like this:

Parent: "I just wanted to tell you how much I've appreciated you this year.  F. has loved you.  She...she just loves you."
Me: "Oh, thanks.  I've loved having F. in my class.  I will miss her very much."
Parent: "Well, I never thought anyone could hold a candle to Miss J. (Side note: this is not me as in before I was married Miss J.  This Miss J. is a different teacher.  She teaches 1st grade and is AMAZING!) but you do.  You've been amazing."
Me: "Thank you."

That's all I could say.  I was so stunned by the comment that all this parent got was a thank you.  Man, I love that family!

Teacher vs. 6th graders kick ball game.  Teachers won (obviously) 14-6.

Thursday: Field Day.  We didn't have a slip-n-slide or a dunk tank so it wasn't nearly as fun as last year.  Bummer.

Friday: Remember how RS stole my desk for April Fool's Day?  Well, he tried to do it again today.  Shouldn't you be crying about how much you're going to miss me not tormenting me?  Gosh, the nerve!

Some select students were crying from the minute the first bell rang...we've got 4 hours ladies.  Hold it together.

We had our "graduation" (interperet as 6th graders walking through the halls while Pomp and Circumstance plays over the intercom and all the other grades and teachers clap for them), students were beyond sobbing.  It was ridiculous but I did choke up, mostly because Andrea is leaving us to teach in Logan.

It was a pretty good school year.  I didn't have anyone suspended, there was no stealing, no horrible things written on bathroom walls, I didn't cry because I was so upset with my students.  We're going to call this year a success.

Stay tuned for next year though.  We hear this group coming up is a little difficult.

April Fool's, Mrs. H!

I walked into my classroom today to find that I no longer had a desk.

My reaction?  "Ugh.  My desk." and immediately walked out to find RS and his crew of assailants.

They were nowhere to be found so I decided to talk to the janitor...he's always in on the practical jokes.  Unfortunately, he had no idea where my desk was.  As I walked in to show him, I noticed the camera taping my every move.

So I picked it up and said, "You think you're so funny, don't you?"  Then I heard it.   The laughter of a half dozen 12-year olds.   They had been standing outside the window peaking in and laughing the whole time.

"You guys watch out" is what I told them in my most mischievous tone.  "You never know when I might get you back."

And get them back I did.  I gave them a "7th Grade Math Placement Test" with 9th grade honors curriculum on it.  I told them I wasn't allowed to help and any question that didn't have work shown would be graded wrong regardless of a correct answer or not...they also only got 30 minutes to finish.  (I should have made it 15, just to make them worry that much more.)

There were kids who were about to cry, there were kids who obviously just gave up, there were kids who whined, there were kids who tried really hard to figure things out, there were kids who sat and looked dumbfounded...it was glorious.

After the half-hour, they were distraught.  I thought about telling them about the joke before they went to lunch but why not let them squirm a little longer?

Next year, I will be prepared.  Next year I will have hilarious April Fools for my students.

I'm Thankful for Funny Kids

My class has been writing something they're thankful for every morning for the past week on little paper leaves.  We then put these on our Thankful Tree.

I've been getting a lot of
"I'm thankful for my family."
"I'm thankful for my friends."
"electricity"
"warmth"
"love"
"food"
"clothing"
"books" etc.

Today, I got this gem.

"I'm thankful that Sarah Palin isn't in the presedential office right now."

Gotta love those politically opinionated 6th graders.
