Victoria, Jaynee and Burlington

I went to the mall with Jaynee to buy cheap bras at Victoria's Secret.

I've decided I don't much enjoy that store.  It reminds me of my junior high years when I felt a bit scandalous to be shopping in such a "naughty" store.

The scents of all the lotions brought me right back to the girls locker room after a gym class.  Why did we insist on smearing a years supply of Pear GlacĂ© lotion all over our bodies?  We must have smelled horrible.  I apologize junior high teachers.  Not only were we difficult to deal with but we smelled like those gym socks you haven't washed in a year and your grandma's stinky perfume had a baby.

The smell of that lotion literally makes me sick to my stomach.  It brings back so many not fun memories.  Ah, man.  Junior high sucked hard core.

After Victoria's, we went over to Burlington Coat Factory.  Who knew they had gobs of cheap lingerie?  I didn't.  I decided that looking at lingerie would be a very awkward time to run into a student.  Good thing it didn't happen.

Field Day

Do you remember field day as an elementary student?  I know I had them but I can't remember anything about them.  I'm sure they were fun and I'm sure I looked forward to them but the memory of them are lost in the great abyss that is early-life memories.  I guess that's what your mind does 14-20 years later...dumps the less important memories to make room for more important stuff like home addresses, birthdays, and social security numbers.

Today was field day at my school.  I have been looking forward to this and the 6th graders vs. teachers kick ball game all. freaking. year.

My plan was to just watch and supervise (like a good teacher).  My students' plans were much different.  Within 2 minutes of field day starting, I was soaking wet.  Once I realized my underwear were never going to dry, I decided to live it up.  I slip 'n slid-ed my way into my students memories, dumped buckets of water on sixth graders who drive me crazy, and let 6th graders talk me into going into the dunk tank.

Yes, I was the LAST person in the school to go in and was totally disgusted by the state of the water (500+ kids in a small pool of water = some sort of water-born disease) but it made the kids happy and I guess that's what it's about, right?

P.S. The 6th grade vs. teacher game was Wednesday afternoon...teachers dominated again...14 to 3.  Silly 6th graders thinking they could ever win.

Graduation!

It's official...

I have graduated from college!!

Yesterday was the ceremony and brunch at Westminster. I've been to a few high school graduations in my life but I expected a college graduation to be a bit different. It wasn't. It was way too long, I was uncomfortable in my gown (which made me itch and gave me a rash on my uncovered leg...eww), it was so hot, the president spoke way too much, etc. I do have to say that I was very impressed with both of the speakers though. They were great and didn't talk for too long. Way to go guys!

Grandma, Me, Grandpa

Yea! I have a degree!
After graduation, we went out to eat. My sister brought Ali, the baby she nannies, which made for a much more interesting time.

Wow! I'm kinda making a scary face. We all got rained on when we were running in.

I spent most of my time trying to get Ali to laugh and use her Cookie Monster voice. Believe me, it's hilarious!

When you combine chocolate milk, pepsi, raspberry lemonade, and the remains of 4 other drinks, you get this concontion. I dared my sisters to drink it for $20. No one took that offer.

After graduation and all the family stuff, I went to a birthday party for my good friend Meredith. We sat around a camp fire, roasted marshmallows, and reminisced about memories of high school. The time we went to Lake Powell, school dances, making comedic genius videos. Good times ladies, good times.

Musical Spring Cleaning

I'm a musical pack rat. I have almost filled my iPod (about 7,000 songs, I know...ridiculous). I have recently noticed my computer really taking its sweet time to do things so I decided that today was the day that I would get rid of music I don't listen to any more. I have tried to do this often but I always have this paranoid thought of "What if I decide I want to listen to them again one day? Then what?" Today I pushed those paranoid thoughts out the window and started deleting. I'm down to about 4,500 songs now which is still insane but I can't bare to part with them.

Because of all this 'cleaning,' I have rediscovered some music that I at one time loved but due to the vast amount of music on my iPod, I haven't listened to in a long time.

  • Styrofoam Plates -- Death Cab For Cutie

These songs bring back so many memories! I can still remember the first time I heard some of the songs or the exact things I was doing when listening to them. Screaming Infidelities reminds me of my senior year of high school, skipping class to drive around in a friend's new car and sing this song over and over again at the top of our lungs.

Styrofoam Plates reminds me of a college professor that was a bit wacky but taught me so much.

Here's to the Night and Sam's Song remind me of the year I lived in Sugar House and was so poor and trying to survive my first year at Westminster.

I love how music has such a prominent place in many people's lives. People are so connected through music.
