My Birthday...8 Days Premature

We celebrated my 28th (how the heck did I get so old?) birthday with my family last night.  We had delicious hamburgers (that I totally burned to a crisp the first time around), homemade potato salad and banana cream pie.  We were supposed to have homemade ice cream in my brand new ice cream maker but we didn't freeze the inside portion soon enough.  Who's up for ice cream soup?

I'm not a big cake person so we obviously had a birthday pie.

That's only 28 candles...

Trying to figure out what to wish for. My family gave me lots of good choices to think about.

And the two wishes I finally went with are both sure to come true.  I blew out that inferno of birthday pie fire like a boss.

I'll let you know when my wishes come true...

My (Really Late) Birthday Present

Remember how I had a birthday back in March?  Well, I did.

Around my birthday, Husband and I were at Ikea.  We saw this lovely shelf.  Husband said he could make one.  I was doubtful.  He insisted. 

Two months later...it's finally (almost) done.  This is what the friends and husband did while I was gone last night.  Apparently, the shelf is really sturdy.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

I woke up this morning and did my normal blog reading.  And guess what I discovered.

Not 100 percent sure where the infinity comes in but whatev.  It's my blog I can title this junk whatever I darn well please.

I made this cake over the weekend.  It's from Dana...as in Dana Made It...as in Made...my favorite blog to stalk and pretend I know how to sew and dream of all the cute clothes I'll make for my own babies and nieces and nephews and oh...the beautiful dreams I have.  Dreams.  I'll never really make any of the adorable things on her site.  Remember the sewing a dress for myself debacle?  Ay, yi, yi.  Terrible.

Super huge tangent.  The cake.  The wonderful cake.  You should make it...just saying.  It's delicious.

I'm making it for my birthday party Friday.  Hope everyone enjoys chocolate and marshmallows as much as I do.

Closer and Closer to 30

It's my birthday week!

Happy Half Birthday to Me!

Yesterday was one of the best days of my life.  Up to now.  Period. End of story.

September 12th is my half birthday.  (I know, that's a very 5-year-old thing to keep track of but hear me out on why they are so awesome...First, you're not actually getting any older (yes, you're a day older but people age in years, not days); second, there's no pressure to make it awesome; third, who doesn't want an excuse to have a party?  I could go on and on about the advantages of half-birthdays but I won't because that's not what this post is about.)

Here's how my oh so amazing day went down:

I started the day off by going to church, which is always awesome.  Instead of going to my ward's sacrament meeting, I was able to go to Amanda and Thomas' ward for Amanda's confirmation.  It was so good.  I am so stoked for her.  She was so happy.


Following Amanda's confirmation, I made chili and cornbread for dinner with Anthony, Jaynee, and Jenny.  It was stinking delicious!  Then we had a pizookie for dessert.  Holy moley.  If you don't know what a pizookie is, you're missing out.  Here's a little explanation...take cookie dough, put it in a small pie tin, cook until it's done on the outsides but still slightly gooey in the middle, top with ice cream, devour.  So good.  There may be pictures one day.


Jenny and I then went to set up refreshments for the CES fireside.  We listened to Elder Richard G. Scott speak.  He is such an amazing man.  It was a great fireside.  Originally, I did not plan on going.  I'm so glad I did now.

When the fireside was over, I expected people to come to my house to hang out because that's what we do.  Anthony was giving me a ride home.  He was taking forever.  I was tired and just wanted to go home.


We finally headed home and I saw all my friends' cars in the parking lot.  As I was walking up to my complex, I realized that all the lights in my house were off.  What the heck are they doing in there in the dark?  Weirdos!

Then it dawned on me.  It was my half birthday and no one had said anything about it.  These little cuties were throwing a surprise party for me.  Yippee-I-O-Ki-Ay!

Yep, the cake has a double rainbow.

On the 12th Day...
