Chocolate + Marshmallows + Cake + Infinity = Weekend Bliss

Not 100 percent sure where the infinity comes in but whatev.  It's my blog I can title this junk whatever I darn well please.

I made this cake over the weekend.  It's from Dana...as in Dana Made It...as in Made...my favorite blog to stalk and pretend I know how to sew and dream of all the cute clothes I'll make for my own babies and nieces and nephews and oh...the beautiful dreams I have.  Dreams.  I'll never really make any of the adorable things on her site.  Remember the sewing a dress for myself debacle?  Ay, yi, yi.  Terrible.

Super huge tangent.  The cake.  The wonderful cake.  You should make it...just saying.  It's delicious.

I'm making it for my birthday party Friday.  Hope everyone enjoys chocolate and marshmallows as much as I do.

Quick Write

I have no real reason to be posting anything today. Let's make this post as random as possible.

When I want my students to just write and not worry about what is going on their page, I have them "Quick Write." The premise is that you write every thought that pops into your head, no matter how odd it sounds. I usually tell my students something like this: "If you're writing about what you want to do when you get home after school then your brain starts thinking about kittens, YOU WRITE THAT. Then your brain goes onto your favorite song, YOU WRITE THAT." Usually I do the activity as my students are doing it then I share so they know what I expect. The other big thing is that you don't edit anything you write. What I write in the moment is what is going to be published. (Though I will check my spelling.) So here's the blog version of Quick Write.

I bought some skinny jeans yesterday. I always thought my thighs were way too big to wear skinny jeans but my roommate insisted they look fabulous. We'll see.

Here's a recipe I really want to try. Maybe I'll have my sister who loves baking make it for me.

Quick Write is much harder on the computer. There are all these little things to distract me that are not present when it's just you, paper and a pencil. Gosh. I never thought about that before.

I'm reading two books right now. Catching Fire and The Girl Who Could Fly. I've heard great things about both and I really wish I could read them both simultaneously but that doesn't work. I really want to finish them but everything else just keeps getting in the way. Thanks a lot, Life!

My family is coming over for cake and ice cream tonight. My littlest sister made cup cakes. They look fabulous. I hope they taste as good as they look.

I went to church today. I love church. It's such a great 3 hour block of time. We have a new bishopric. They are great gentlemen.

I have a pile of crap (not literally) in my room and I don't know where to put it. So it's going to stay a pile of crap for a few more days.

Baking Heavenly Goodness

I'm having a Girl's Night at my house tonight so I thought I'd make something delicious. I had seen Jessica's post about Monkey Bread awhile ago and thought, "That sounds fantastic. I should make that one day." Today, I thought, "Today is the day."

Instead of making dough like she did, I thawed some Rhode's dough. It made my life so much easier and I could continue doing laundry instead of kneading dough...win win in my mind. Needless to say, I didn't actually do much, I just rolled pre-made dough in butter, cinnamon and sugar and threw them in the oven. Let's just keep that between you and me, though. I'm telling everyone else that I spent hours making dough. I also didn't make the glaze because I didn't have powdered sugar and I didn't want to go to the store but let's say I skipped that step to make it healthier.

Early on, my house began to smell like what I'm sure heaven smells like...really. It's amazing in here. You're welcome to come over right now so you can partake of the heavenly goodness.

Then, after what seemed like forever but was really only 15 minutes, I took the lovelies out of the oven. Aren't they fabulous? And yes, those are the pot holders I won here. (Thanks, Angela! Love them!)

I couldn't wait until my friends came to taste them, so I ate one. I had to make sure they were okay, what if they tasted like junk? I can't serve junk tasting bread to friends. Luckily, they didn't taste like junk. They were magical. Probably what heaven tastes like.

Good thing I have a little self control because if I didn't the whole pan would be gone. This recipe is so easy, especially if you don't make the dough. Go make some now and tell me how amazing your house smells.
