Tortoise Love

"I think my tortoises are making babies because they keep cuddling and standing next to each other.  I think they're in love."

Ahhhh...the logic of 6th graders.

If that's how you made babies, I'd have a grundle of them!

The Jelly Bracelets of 2010

I don't know what these are even called.
Every sixth grader has them though.  I told my students on the first day of class that they could wear them but if they were playing with them I would take them and never give them back (they're 12 for $1, I don't think that's too harsh.) I took these 3 today.

Normally, I just throw them away.  Today I put them on.  I'm going to see how many I get in the week and wear every single one of them.  No one will know who the teacher is and who the students are.

I'm so cool.

My Symphony

I love this.  I found it here.  Check her out.

Yo Ho Ho!

I wore this today:

I started out wearing hoops and boots and I thought, "That's way too pirate-ish.  I should change that."

When I got to school, I asked my students if I looked like a pirate.  They yelled an enthusiastic "Yes!  You look so cool!"  Because of that, I had them take a picture of me.

During library, our librarian read a book about pirates.

The math of the day was this problem:

Juan’s class made a gigantic square pizza for a class party to be held the day after their final math test.  They made it a week before the party so they would have time to study.  To keep the pizza fresh, they stored it in the cafeteria freezer.
Unfortunately, the notorious Pizza Pirate was lurking in the area.  That night, the Pizza Pirate disguised himself as a janitor, tiptoed into the cafeteria, and gobbled down half of the pizza! On the second night, he ate half of what was left of the pizza.  Each night after that, he crept in and ate half of the pizza that remained.
After the final test, Juan’s class went to get their pizza to start their celebration—and were stunned by what they found!
What fraction of the pizza was left for the party?

Another teacher handed out a word search all about pirates.

None of this happened on purpose.  Obviously, today is Pirate Day.  It's official because I said so.  Are you wearing your eye patch?

Target + Ash J. = Match Made in Heaven

I love Target.  Walking into the red and white decor gives me goosebumps.  The florescent lights make me giddy.  I go there all the time.  I go there even when I don't need anything.   I don't know what I would do if I ever lived somewhere without a Target near by...probably stop buying cute dresses.  I buy a lot of dresses from Target.  They've always got a cute, cheap option.

Today, though, I got lucky in the shoe department.

I am obsessed with red shoes...these have been calling my name for a while now but I never could let myself buy them for $20.  Today I searched the clearance isle and there they were, the lone pair in an abyss of ugliness.  And they were just my size.  These shoes coming into my life was obviously meant to be.

Plus, they were on clearance for $4.98.  Yep, $5 shoes.  I love.

Sentences and Hot Dogs

We ended up having a 10 minutes conversation about good writing during math today.

We talked about compound sentences (you know compound sentences..."I went to dinner last night and then I went to a movie and I bought some shoes at Target.").

I said, "Compound sentences are hooked together with a. . ."

D. screams, "A HOT DOG!!!"

Yes, hot dogs are what keep our sentences together.

Oh, how I love silly 6th graders.

All these 9s made me happy to see.

King of Anything

I'm so obsessed with this song.

I love Sara Bareilles.

Too Legit

I'm slightly obsessed with this print from Oh Dier.

I think I need to find somewhere to hang this is my house.  I'm so so very into this!

Butt Skillet

Let's recap my day.

I woke up at 5:30...in the AM!  Aye!  What was my body thinking?  Since I was wide awake, I decided I would go running.  Yep, I ran...it was awesome in a I-hate-this-crap sort of way.

I taught all day and was so tired by the time 4pm rolled around.  I couldn't move.  I couldn't do anything.  I think I ended up staring at the wall.

After I got home from adventures with Anthony, I went to Institute with Jaynee and Jenny.  Institute was fabulous but I was so tired I couldn't concentrate.  As we left,  Jenny asked Jaynee to come over to our place.  I told them I was just going to go to sleep.  They didn't like that.  I said, "I'm sorry I'm being such a buzz kill but I am exhausted!"  Jaynee heard, "I'm sorry I'm being such a butt skillet. . ."  Close but no.

Though Jaynee heard what I said completely incorrectly, we decided it was way too funny to not repeat.

Butt skillet (buht skil-it) noun A person who does not enjoy doing fun things, a buzz kill.  Can be shortened to skillet but never just butt.  "Man, you're such a butt skillet now that you're taking night classes!"

It will be something said on a regular basis by my group of friends.  Period.  End of story.

Cue the Water Works

I have a lot on my plate right now...even more than I've mentioned on the blog but those awesome tidbits are coming soon.

Because I'm supposed to be doing so much, everything gets done halfheartedly.  The thing that got done halfheartedly today?  MEd. homework.  Actually it didn't get done at all.  (I know I said I already did it but turns out there was much more than I thought there was.)  Due to the fact that I didn't read what I was supposed to read, I tried to just sit back and not participate without looking like a total idiot (by the way, it's a very hard thing to do when you're me and there are only 6 other people in your class).  I thought I did it pretty well.  Turns out I didn't.

As class gets out my professor asks me if she can talk to me for a bit.  Sure.  No problem.

All she asked was how I was.  That's it.  A simple, "How are you?"  Is this a question that usually makes you cry?  Me either, but today it did.

I sat and cried with her for 30 minutes.  By "with her" I mean I cried and she told me it was okay to fall apart sometimes.

Golly.  I hate crying in front of people when nothing is really wrong.  I hate making people worry about me.  I hate feeling like this.

Really, truly, I am okay.  Don't worry about me.

Trifecta of Awesome

I love these ladies.

And Unfortunate Things Happen Sometimes

Scene: Sitting on a bar stool at my kitchen counter reading The Sassy Curmudgeon and eating some tasty chili for dinner.

I think, "Wow!  This chili is hot.  Some ice cold water from my CamelBak sure would cool off my mouth."

I flip the spigot back and the tab flies off and lands in my chili.

Yep, there it is...sitting contently in my chili.

"How did this happen?" I wonder.

Maybe it's from the fact that I drop my water bottle on a daily basis..usually on the lid.

Now if I want a drink, I have to touch the same part that goes in my mouth with my kid-germ ridden hands.  Ewww.

Maybe someone will buy me a new one.
